BURLODGE MUG AND BOWL REDESIGN CONCEPT
「2025 | INJECTIN MOLDED PLASTICS | BY MINKYU PARK + ANDY OVEREND-KUTT」
Designed in collaboration with Burlodge canada and colleague Andrew Overend-Kutt, we took on reimagining Burlodge's existing dinnerware line used in long-term care environments, working within the limitations of existing Burlodge tray ware and tray cart systems.
MISSION
Our primary goal of this project was to empower users within these establishments by imagining creative features to reduce friction during daily interaction. Our decision-making process was made in consideration of senior users, as well as workers preparing and collecting these pieces on a daily basis.
Mug design
The mug was designed with the intention of improving ergonomics and reducing unnecessary cracks and crevices that are hard to sanitize. The flanged rim makes for easier drinking and the anti-slosh line on the interior reduces the likeliness of spillage.

bowl design
The bowl features an angled opening that prioritizes showing the contents inside better than existing bowls. An ergonomic spout makes for an ideal resting place for used utensils and guides workers when aligning the lid.

stackability
Each piece stacks neatly with, and without lids for easy shipping, transport, and collection.
Material thickness changes throughout the mug and bowl for added thermal insulation on contact points.
Lids
Users often lack a place to put down the lids on cramped dining surfaces. Our lid designs allows users to place them underneath, where they function as a coaster.
Iterative Prototyping
During the early stages, many forms, surface details, and ergonomics were explored. Through iterative test models and full-scale prototypes, the design was tested and improved with each revision.
